Tennessee makes it onto People’s ‘100 Reasons to Love America This Year’ list

Tennessee received a couple of mentions in People Magazine’s “100 Reasons to Love America This Year” list — an annual issue celebrating the people, places and things that make America special.

The first shout out, coming in at No. 83, was the Waffle House hero.

James Shaw Jr. saved lives by ambushing a killer and wresting away his rifle at an Antioch Waffle House in April.

“I just wanted to live,” said Shaw Jr. “I feel like everybody can do pretty much what I did.”

The next reference to the Volunteer State, coming in at No. 62, was Carrie Underwood’s face.

Underwood took a hard fall on the steps outside her Nashville area home last November. Forty to 50 stitches later, the country music star is back in action.
