(Newser) – Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is now Sir Ringo Starr. The musician was knighted Tuesday in honor of his services to music, the BBC reports. “It means a lot actually,” Starr said after the ceremony at Buckingham Palace in which Prince William bestowed the honor upon him. “It means recognition for the things we’ve done. I was really pleased to accept this.” As for his medal—which comes 53 years after the Beatles were honored with Member of The Order of The British Empire medals in 1965—Starr, 77, says, “I’ll be wearing it at breakfast.” Fellow Beatle Paul McCartney was knighted 21 years ago. TMZ notes other big-name musicians who’ve been knighted include Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Mick Jagger.
