Come February, Memphis shoppers will no longer be able to visit a Sears store.
The company announced Thursday that it plans to close another 40 Sears and Kmart locations nationwide. The Sears at Southland Mall in Whitehaven is among four Tennessee stores to close by February.
The stores in Northgate Mall in Chattanooga, Foothills Mall in Maryville and the store on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro will also close.
These store closures come less than one month after Sears filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced that 142 stores, including the Sears at Wolfchase Galleriain Cordova, would close by the end of the year. Another 46 stores will close by the end of this month.
A liquidation sale is expected to begin at the Southland Mall Sears late next week.
With Thursday’s announcement, the Sears in Jackson, Tennessee, will be the only Sears within 100 miles of Memphis.
