Stewart Cink shot up the leaderboard in spectacular fashion Saturday. His 144-yard tee shot on No. 8 went in for a hole-in-one during the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind.
Cink had just birdied No. 7 before using his pitching wedge on the par-3, eighth hole. The ball bounced at the foot of the green before rolling toward the cup for an ace.
It’s the first ace of the tournament this weekend and the first at the FedEx St. Jude Classic since 2015 when both David Hearn and Hudson Swafford hit one on No. 4 and No. 14, respectively.
Cink’s ace is the 43rd in tournament history and the 23rd since the tournament moved to TPC Southwind in 1989. During Wednesday’s pro-am, FedEx employee David Edmonds hit a hole-in-one on the 11th hole.
Cink, who won the 2009 British Open, is currently 10-under par, two shots behind co-leaders Andrew Putnam and Dustin Johnson.
Last year at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Cink was tied for the lead heading into Sunday.
