‘Absolute monster’ Michael roars offshore after menacing Southeast

USA Today – After devastating the Southeast and leaving seven people dead in its path, Michael moved off the East Coast early Friday and into the Atlantic Ocean as a post-tropical storm. Hurricane Michael made landfall Wednesday with 155-mph sustained wind, the most powerful hurricane on record to hit Florida’s Panhandle. Beaches disappearedmilitary bases were damagedboats were slammed into houses and trees were mowed down like lawns. Power outages affected more than 1 million customers in five states: North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Virginia and Alabama.The Federal Emergency Management Agency warned that some areas could be without power for weeks. “So many lives have been changed forever,” said Florida Gov. Rick Scott. “This hurricane was an absolute monster.”
